Where it happens, for a family in London

Direct cremation at the City of London Crematorium

The cremation is at the City of London Cemetery and Crematorium, on Aldersbrook Road in Manor Park, E12, in the east of the city. Wherever in Greater London your loved one is, that is where they go, so they stay in London from the day we collect them to the day the ashes come back.

Our chapel of rest is in London as well. A private viewing there is an hour with your loved one before the cremation, for the immediate family, by appointment, and it costs £150. Nothing else can be added to the £1,295.

Where we collect from

Anywhere in the 32 boroughs and the City. A home, a care home, a hospice, or a hospital: the Royal London, St Thomas’, King’s College, Northwick Park, Queen’s in Romford, or any other. If the coroner is involved, we collect from the coroner’s mortuary once your loved one is released.

Collection is inside the price, at any hour of the day or night. What the £1,295 covers line by line, and the four steps from the first call to the ashes, are on the direct cremation page. Outside London we cover Nottinghamshire and Doncaster, and the three areas sit side by side on direct cremation area by area.

What a direct cremation costs, and what it covers

Everything listed here is inside the £1,295, so there is nothing to settle afterwards. It is paid before the cremation, and it does not change.

Paid once, before the cremation

The figure is £1,295 for every family, agreed on the first call. Nothing is added later unless you ask for the viewing, or your loved one needs collecting urgently.

Fixed price, all inclusive

£1,295

What it covers

  • Collection from a home, hospice, hospital or care home
  • Care before the cremation, in a private mortuary
  • The coffin
  • The cremation fee
  • Every form and permission
  • The ashes returned to you

What the price does not cover

There is no service, no hearse and no mourners, and the family is not present at the crematorium. That is what makes it a direct cremation. Two things can add to the price: a private viewing at our chapel of rest, £150, and urgent collection from a home, £250. If a fee set by someone else applies in your case, we tell you about it before anything is agreed.

Questions families in London ask us

It is in Manor Park, E12, about eight miles east of the centre, so for a family in Ealing or Croydon it is across the city. Your loved one travels there once, in our own vehicle, and stays within London throughout. Nobody attends a direct cremation, so the distance is ours to cover rather than yours.

A direct cremation with us is £1,295, fixed, anywhere in Greater London, with the cremation at the City of London Crematorium. The crematorium’s own fee sits inside that figure. A cremation with a service costs more, because it adds the chapel, the hearse and the funeral director’s time on the day. SunLife’s 2026 Cost of Dying report puts the UK average for a traditional funeral at £4,510.

At the register office of the borough where your loved one died, within five days. If that office is awkward to reach, any register office in England and Wales can take the details by declaration and pass them on, which adds a few days. We tell you which office it is and what to take.

Yes, at our chapel of rest in London. A viewing is for the immediate family, by appointment, and costs £150. There is no service and no ceremony. It is an hour with your loved one, and many families find that is all they wanted.

Wherever suits you in Greater London. We collect the ashes from Manor Park once the crematorium releases them, usually the day after the cremation, place them in a container or an urn you have chosen, and bring them to your door, whether that is in Barnet or in Bromley. If you would rather collect them yourself, or have them sent further afield, say so and we arrange it.

Yes, every borough and the City, at the same £1,295. A family in Bromley or Harrow pays what a family in Hackney pays, and collection is included at either end of the city. If your loved one is just outside the M25, in Watford or Dartford for instance, call and we will tell you plainly whether we can collect.

Someone answers, any hour of the day
